Settings

In the book The Host the setting takes place on Earth. In the city where the souls live is much like a normal suburb town, but the overall way that the people act in the town is very strange and different how our suburb town would be like. The people in these towns are all perfect and never tell lies, they trust every person in that town with everything from their car to their life. Even their supermarkets where you don't have to pay for anything. This is the life that the remaining humans fear, they think that life isn't worth living if your trapped inside this perfect robot. The group that the main character Melanie used to be with is now living it a hidden cave like structure in the middle of a desert hiding from the souls. This structure gives them many problems with getting food because there is no light, but they found a way to grow some food with the use of mirrors. The settings in this book do go from one extreme to another but in the end the setting really gives a sense of how different the two species are.

The Chosing of Books

I am still pretty early in the book The Host by Stephanie Myer but so far it was been a excellent pick for me. At first I chose the book because I had seen the trailer for the movie a little while ago and thought it looked interesting. Then before we had to pick out a new independent reading books I looked into the book. This book looked like something new and different than what I usually read, which is more towards the realistic fiction route. This book was fantasy with a twist of si-fi. I am really excited to see where this book goes next!

Stephinie Meyer

I have recently started reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer. You might reconize this name from the famous series Twight which has now been made into 5 movies! These books have also sold more than 250 million copies and have been translated into 37 diffent languages. Twilight was also honored as a New York Times "Editor's Choice and Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year." In 2008 Meyer released her first non-twilight book  The Host was something much similar on the oppiste romance but now it was alien based so this book was slightly more si-fi. This book was soon made into a motion picture and is getting rave reviews from all the fans!
