Settings

In the book The Host the setting takes place on Earth. In the city where the souls live is much like a normal suburb town, but the overall way that the people act in the town is very strange and different how our suburb town would be like. The people in these towns are all perfect and never tell lies, they trust every person in that town with everything from their car to their life. Even their supermarkets where you don't have to pay for anything. This is the life that the remaining humans fear, they think that life isn't worth living if your trapped inside this perfect robot. The group that the main character Melanie used to be with is now living it a hidden cave like structure in the middle of a desert hiding from the souls. This structure gives them many problems with getting food because there is no light, but they found a way to grow some food with the use of mirrors. The settings in this book do go from one extreme to another but in the end the setting really gives a sense of how different the two species are.
